Dr. Veenstra-VanderWeele is a child and adolescent psychiatrist who uses molecular and translational neuroscience research tools in the pursuit of new treatments for autism spectrum disorder (ASD). He serves as the Murphy Professor of Developmental Neuropsychiatry and the Division Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University and the New York State Psychiatric Institute. He sees children, adolescents, and adults at the NewYork-Presbyterian Center for Autism and the Developing Brain. Dr. Veenstra-VanderWeele currently chairs the National Institutes of Health Developmental Brain Disorders Study Section and serves as Associate Editor for Autism Research, the Journal of the International Society of Autism Research. His work has garnered multiple awards, including the Blanche Ittelson Award for Research in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry from the American Psychiatric Association and the George Tarjan Award for Contributions in Developmental Disabilities from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
